What to Bring

Payment Methods:

For rentals or guided trips, we accept cash, PayPal and Venmo. Make sure you have your preferred payment method ready upon arrival.

Dry Bag:

If you have a dry bag, bring it along! A dry bag is a great place to store important items like wallets, keys, and phones, keeping them safe and dry while you’re on the water. If you don’t have one, don’t worry – we offer dry bags for rent.

Valuables:

To prevent any risk of losing valuables in the river, consider leaving them at home or in your car. If you must bring them, ensure they are stored securely in a dry bag.

Bug Spray:

Depending on the time of year, bugs can be more prevalent. Bring bug spray to ensure a comfortable trip.

Towel:

Bring a towel to dry off after your trip. Even if you’re not planning to change clothes, you’ll want to dry off before heading home or exploring Royalton.

What to Wear

Water-Friendly Clothes:

Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet. Here are some suggestions:

Swimwear:
Ideal for those who plan to get fully immersed in the water.

Athletic Wear:
Quick-drying athletic shorts and shirts are comfortable and practical.

Comfort:
Ensure whatever you wear allows for full movement and comfort throughout your trip.

Change of Clothes:

Pack a change of clothes, including underwear and, if necessary, shoes. After a day on the water, you’ll appreciate having clean, dry clothes to change into.

Footwear:

Wear shoes or sandals with a heel strap for safety and stability. Avoid flip-flops as they can easily slip off and get lost in the water.

Sun Protection

Sunscreen:
Apply sunscreen before your trip and bring some for reapplication.

Hat: 

A wide-brimmed hat provides excellent protection from the sun.

When you rent from us, we’ll provide the following essential gear:

Watercraft: A kayak or canoe, depending on your rental choice.

Paddle: A paddle suited to your watercraft.

Personal Flotation Device (PFD): A life jacket that our staff will help you fit correctly to ensure your safety on the water.

The Platte River is a dynamic natural environment with conditions that can change rapidly. Be aware of the following:

Fallen Trees and Debris: 

The river may have fallen trees, branches, and other debris that can pose hazards. Always be vigilant and prepared to navigate around obstacles.

Water Levels:
Water levels can rise or fall quickly due to weather conditions. High water can increase the river’s speed and difficulty.

Current:
The strength of the current can vary. Always assess the river conditions before starting your trip and adjust your plans accordingly.

*For your safety, always wear your Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and stay aware of your surroundings. If you’re unsure about the river conditions, don’t hesitate to ask our staff for advice.

After Your Trip

Landing when you’re finished with your kayak trip:

• Land anywhere near our sign within the marked landing area.
• Drag your watercraft fully out of the water.
• Place the paddle and PFD inside the watercraft to keep everything organized and ready for return.
• Returning to Your Vehicle
• After securing your gear, head up our newly renovated stairs. These stairs will take you back to the parking area where you can access your vehicle.
